AT THE 2023 NATIONAL INTEGRITY AWARDS, LAWYER RASHID DUMBUYA WINS THE ZCC HUMAN RIGHTS AWARD OF THE YEAR.

The Executive Director of LEGAL LINK, lawyer Rashid Dumbuya was crowned yesterday at the National Integrity Awards 2023 with the ZCC Human Rights Award of the year for his outstanding contributions in the human rights sector and in defense of the rights of vulnerable groups in Sierra Leone.

The event which took place on Saturday,18th March 2023 at the Family Kingdom attracted a good number of institutions, dignitaries and other awardees such as Hon Abdul Kargbo, opposition member of Parliament, Ishmael Alfred Charles Co-founder and lead campaigner of the Sick Pikin Project and representatives from the ACC and Audit Service of Sierra Leone to name but a few.

Zero Corruption Campaign ( ZCC) is an independent Anti- Graft organization that advocates for integrity in public life and also awards individuals and institutions in Sierra Leone that are making a difference in terms of upholding integrity and rendering voluntary services to humanity.

According to the ZCC Award governing body, lawyer Rashid Dumbuya was nominated for the human rights award due to his outstanding feats in the area of human rights advocacy, legal education, youth empowerment and defending the rights of vulnerable groups in the country.

Notwithstanding his removal as a Commissioner of the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone, Rashid still continued to serve the people of Sierra Leone as a human rights advocate and expert working with the government, the Judiciary, the University of Sierra Leone, civil society organizations, Ministries, Department and Agencies and other parastatals helping them out in the area of accountability, rule of law, respect for human rights as well as legal and policy reforms.

It is for all of the above reasons why lawyer Rashid Dumbuya has been deemed the most worthy recipient of the ZCC Human Rights Award 2023, the head of the organization lamented.

In his interview to the press just after the end of the program, lawyer Rashid Dumbuya thanked the ZCC organization for counting him worthy to receive such a prestigious Award and promised to continue to do more in terms of promoting and protecting the rights of vulnerable groups in Sierra Leone.

He thanked God for giving him the grace, love, wisdom, strength and courage to always speak out and stand up for the rights of vulnerable groups in the country.

Mr Dumbuya dedicated the award to the entire staff and interns of LEGAL LINK for their passion and commitment in attending to the welfare of vulnerable groups and also in helping to build a culture of respect for Human Rights in Sierra Leone.
