LEGAL LINK, as part of its philanthropic activities to support vulnerable groups in Sierra Leone, has on Tuesday, 14th February 2022 (Valentine’s Day), donated food items such as rice, oil, onions, maggie, water, valentines cake and cupcakes to the aged at the King George's V1 Home and vulnerable children at Manaheim Children's Orphanage at Grafton, Freetown.
The aged and vulnerable children were given these food items as a show of LEGAL LINK's love and commitment to seeking their welfare at a time when everyone seems to have forgotten about them. This donation marks the fourth year of continuous fruitful relationship between LEGAL LINK and these beneficiaries.
The King George V1 Home at Grafton is a refuge for about 35 elderly people with varying health challenges and traumatic conditions.
Similarly, the Manaheim Orphanage home is a shelter for about 39 vulnerable children, many of whom are orphans and some of which have also been abandoned by their parents / guardians because of their physical or intellectual disability. Their orphanage home is currently under ultra-modern construction through the help of the Ministry of Social Welfare, One Family People and other donor partners.
While addressing the residents of the old people home in Grafton, the Executive Director of LEGAL LINK, Rashid Dumbuya Esq, encouraged them to be strong, have faith in God and never lose hope or courage in life.
Similarly, he appealed for and observed a moment of silence for the passing of the former administrator/ matron of the home, who he said had been very loving and caring towards the elderly.
Rashid also used the occasion to inform the old people that his Organization is planning to develop a Private Member Bill that is geared towards protecting and promoting the rights of older persons in Sierra Leone.
Mr. Dumbuya ended by calling on the government of Sierra Leone to sign, ratify and domesticate the Protocol on the Rights of Older Persons in Africa within its jurisdiction. He also expressed his hope that other individuals and organizations would emulate and even surpass LEGAL LINK's giving to those in need, for the betterment of the country.
Ms. Sarafina Nicol Sesay, a legal intern at LEGAL LINK, while officially handing over the donated food items, assured both the leadership of the King George V1 Home and Manaheim Orphanage home of LEGAL LINK’s continued support to them.
The leadership of both Homes expressed thanks and appreciation to LEGAL LINK for being very supportive over the past four (4) years. The program was climaxed with prayers from Pastor Paul Ken Bockarie, Board Chair of LEGAL LINK, cutting of the Valentines cake and the rendition of beautiful songs from the residents of the Elderly Home.
Heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all those that contributed in cash and/or in kind to making this donation a great success. May God richly bless you. For more information on this event, please find attached to this media update some pics for your attention and perusal.
